| Abstract | Spatial distribution of 137Cs concentration in suspended sediment in paddy fields in Fukushima was investigated in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. Turbid water from 32 paddy fields under paddling operation over Fukushima prefecture were collected. The sample number in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 were 31, 26, 22, 15 and 13, respectively. Suspended sediments were extracted from the turbid water samples and measured for 137Cs activity concentration (Bq kg-1). Particle size distributions in the suspended sediment samples were also measured using particle size analyzer and specific surface area of suspended sediments, SSA (cm2 g-1), was estimated based on particle size distribution in sediment with an assumption of spherical shape of sediment particles. Particle size correction factor, P, was calculated by following Yoshimura et al. (2006) as P = (SSA/0.406)0.65. The normalized 137Cs activity concentration, ScP-SS (m2 kg-1), was calculated by dividing 137Cs activity concentration in suspended sediment by 137Cs inventory (Bq m-2) obtained from the 3rd airborne survey by MEXT (2011).
