Video: Ten Years after the Fukushima Nuclear Accident—Past, Present, and Future of Agriculture

Overview

Videos from the 2021 Symposium of the Japanese Society of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition, “Ten Years after the Fukushima Nuclear Accident—Past, Present, and Future of Agriculture,” are now available online.

Held on the tenth anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake and the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident, the symposium reviewed how soil science and plant nutrition have contributed to addressing challenges in agricultural production following the nuclear accident. It also explored future research directions and scientific contributions to agriculture and environmental restoration.

ERAN-funded researcher Associate Professor Jun Furukawa (University of Tsukuba) gave a presentation entitled “Radiocesium Uptake and Translocation in Rice Plants,” introducing research on the mechanisms of radiocesium uptake and transport in rice and discussing how these findings have contributed to agricultural recovery and environmental radioactivity research.

We invite you to watch the symposium videos.
