Abstract | The 3D daily-averaged flow field database was developed using the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS) to simulate the high-resolution oceanic dispersion of Cs-137 released from Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant from 2013 to 2016. The model domain covered the ocean off Fukushima (35°54' N–40°00' N, 139°54' E–147°00' E) with a fine horizontal resolution of 1/120° (~1 km) to capture submesoscale processes and a vertical resolution of 30 σ-coordinate layers. The simulation was forced at the surface using atmospheric data from the NuWFAS reanalysis system, which provided wind stress, heat, and freshwater fluxes at a horizontal resolution of 5 km and a temporal resolution of 1 hour. Boundary conditions were set using JCOPE2 oceanic reanalysis data, including horizontal currents, temperature, salinity, and sea surface height, with a horizontal resolution of 1/10°. Mesoscale dynamics, such as eddies and the Kuroshio Current, were represented by nudging the model results to JCOPE2 data outside coastal zones shallower than 150 m, with a nudging timescale of 1 day.
