The Center for Research in Isotopes and Environmental Dynamics (CRiED) at the University of Tsukuba was reorganized into the Center for Research in Radiation, Isotopes and Earth System Sciences (CRiES) on April 1, 2023.
Announcement of the establishment of the Center for Research in Radiation, Isotopes, and Earth System Sciences (CRiES)
Welcome to the establishment of the Center for Research in Radiation, Isotopes, and Earth System Sciences (CRiES). Previously, our university’s isotope-related research organizations conducted research and education independently. However, to elucidate the environmental dynamics of isotopes, various fields of expertise were needed. For this reason, it was necessary to integrate these organizations and to establish an integrated system of research and education.
By integrating the existing Radioisotope Research Section, Radionuclide Environmental Transfer Section, Environmental Dynamics & Prediction Section and Data Analysis for International Collaboration Section with the newly established Advanced Accelerator Section, Section of Medicine for Radiation Effects, Isotope Cosmochemistry and Geochemistry Section, it will be possible to activate new research using isotopes, such as radiation medicine, environmental change research, and device research using accelerators, and to strengthen the research infrastructure and improve safety education.
In addition, multidisciplinary research is needed to assess the environmental impact of the Fukushima accident and environmental dynamics issues because of their complexity. This center is expected to lead international research on the environmental dynamics of radioactivity by establishing an interdisciplinary data infrastructure. Since this center is a shared research infrastructure for universities, research institutions, and related communities at both national and international levels, it is expected to be widely used for shared use and collaborative research.
We look forward to your continued support for the further development of the center.
